HemoScreen is an appropriate option for point of care CBC testing in the operating room
A recently published study from Uppsala University in Sweden examined the viability, usability, and clinical validity of using the HemoScreen™ point of care (POC) complete blood count (CBC) analyzer in the operating room. HemoScreen is a portable and maintenance free POC hematology analyzer providing results in only 5 minutes from just one drop of blood. HemoScreen measures 20 standard CBC parameters, including the 5-part leukocyte differential.
The study examined 145 blood samples from 91 patients undergoing major surgery. HemoScreen was found to be a feasible and rapid option for point of care testing in the operating room, providing acceptable accuracy compared with the well-established central lab analyzer Sysmex XN 9000. HemoScreen showed imprecision with a CV below 5%. User experience was assessed through a questionnaire where HemoScreen was found to be easier to use with shorter turnaround times over standard laboratory testing.
