Are you prepared for tick season?
Tick-borne diseases
Together with the season for outdoor activities comes also the ticks. Ticks are small ecto-parasites found in both urban and rural areas including woodlands, grass, open fields, and bushes. They are most active from spring to autumn.
Ticks require blood to survive, and when they bite, they can transmit diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), Lyme borreliosis (LB) and Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB).

How ticks transmit diseases?
While ticks themselves do not cause disease, if a tick is infected with a virus or bacterium, it can transmit the pathogen through its bite, leading to illness in humans. The key to prevention is to avoid tick bites by removing the tick rapidly and by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long trousers when being in areas with ticks.
