Aidian helps to fight against antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance is a global health threat
Antibiotics are life-saving medicines and the most important drugs to treat bacterial infections. Unfortunately, the over- and misuse of antibiotics has driven the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. As a result, antibiotics become ineffective and curing previously treatable infections becomes difficult. World Health Organization (WHO) has declared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as one of the top 10 current global health threats.
Antibiotics can only be used for treating bacterial infections. Majority of all antibiotics used in healthcare are prescribed in primary care, where respiratory infections are the most common reason for the healthcare visit. However, approximately 90% of respiratory infections are caused by viruses or are self-limiting and antibiotics are not needed to cure them. Proper use of antibiotics is key in fighting against AMR. Aidian’s QuikRead go CRP and Strep A tests help healthcare professionals to identify whether antibiotics are needed or not.
